Roman, charged with seven felony counts related to organizing fake electors in battleground states, including Georgia, made these claims in a legal filing in early January. His lawyers argue that Willis appointed Wade as the lead prosecutor due to their alleged personal relationship and have requested the dismissal of charges against Roman, along with the disqualification of Willis and Wade from the case. Furthermore, Roman’s legal team contends that Wade financially benefited from the case through legal services contracts, a claim extended to Willis as well, suggesting she received unrelated perks from Wade.
Adding complexity to the situation, Willis received a subpoena in January related to Wade’s divorce case. Joycelyn Wade, Nathan’s estranged wife, revealed credit card statements indicating trips with Willis during the election probe. Willis hired Wade, an attorney with limited experience in major criminal cases, as an outside special prosecutor in November 2021.
Despite the controversy, Willis defends her decisions and the integrity of the case, citing racism as a motive behind the allegations. She appointed Wade, praising his credentials and work assembling the prosecutorial team.
